The Heart Pt 5

Interpreting Kendrick Lamar's art is like trying to win a game of chess against a man who's spent his life sharpening his mind’s blade, out-witting anyone who's ever sat across from him. You can't skip a moment or remove your eyes from the board. You’ll likely miss something pivotal.

Even when laced with grief and survivor's guilt, Dot's poems are stories that reflect the realities of his home— his heart.

Welcoming another addition to his collection of hearts, Kendrick Lamar recently released a follow-up to 2017’s “The Heart Pt 4.” A track he concluded with the announcement of his critically-acclaimed, fourth studio album, “DAMN.”

“Y’all got til’ April the 7th to get y’all shit together.”

The Heart’s” saga began in 2010 and, as of late, has inched its way to being recognized as a staple in Kendrick’s artistry and a rite-of-passage for his album rollouts. Also representative of the mystique woven into his creativity and digital scavenger hunts for his fans to navigate.

The Heart Pt 5 is less of proclaiming Kendrick’s standing as one of the greatest MCs to touch a mic and more of a cultural interlude. The ripple effect of his words will continue to be documented years down the road.
